Since the 1970s, Lois and Arn Hart have sought ways to improve the status of women. They have supported research on moving women into leadership roles and gender relationships Published books include the best selling Moving Up! Women and Leadership and The Sexes at Work. In 1997, they funded the charter Women’s Leadership Institute and Lois served as its Executive Director.

To futher the leadership development of women, in 2005 they founded and funded The Courageous Leadership Consortium, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization.

Our Vision

The Courageous Leadership Consortium’s vision is to identify, create, and then disseminate innovative leadership models and educational resources to develop women leaders.

Our Mission

  • Identification and creation of models and resources for leadership development including assessments, books, computer based training, and newsletters.

  • Outreach through the Internet and direct contact with those involved in leadership development for women.

  • Dissemination of information about innovative and tested models and educational materials through the Courageous Leadership Consortium website, with links to other relevant sites. Organizations wanting to enhance their leadership development resources for women will benefit from this information.

  • Establishment of a consortium of professionals who are involved in creating, administering and evaluating leadership development resources and programs. Members will share their successes and challenges, contribute articles and resources to the Courageous Leadership Consortium website, and attend Courageous Leadership Consortium Summits.

  • Replication of women’s leadership programs (including the Women’s Leadership Institute) in multiple US sites resulting in women leaders who effectively lead corporations and non-profit organizations.
